Moment to Mo(nu)ment
SISU group exhibition at National Film Archive in Tallinn, Estonia
“The Archive of Handshakes” and “The Protocol of Agreements” are presented in dialogue, each having to do with the handshake as a gesture. Both works situate this social act within the temporal frame of architecture.
In “The Archive of Handshakes,” a sculpture preserves the space between two hands at the moment of contact, casting clutch in clay. By fixing that exchange, this work materializes a social ritual that typically passes unnoticed.
“The Protocol of Agreements” looks at the institutional implications of the gesture. Here, the handshake signals the initiation of systems: contracts, regulations, legal frameworks. Within an architectural context, these agreements inform the production of space itself, shaping the built environment and the social structures it supports. These momentary gestures participate in the making of lasting material and civic realities.
